On Saturday 21st July, John Lewis at home Newbury teamed up with local Contact the Elderly group to host a London 2012 themed tea party before the official celebrations start.

The patriotic tea party was attended by 12 guests from the Newbury Contact the Elderly group along with their volunteer drivers. It will be the second tea party John Lewis at home Newbury have hosted for the group. Their previous event was held in June for Her Majesty the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee.

Dominic Joyce, branch manager at John Lewis at home Newbury, said “With only a few days to go, excitement is really starting to build and as a branch we try and involve ourselves in the local community as much as we can. We hope to continue to create more links with charities in the coming year.”

Mary Eynon, Group Co-ordinator for Contact the Elderly Newbury Group 2, said “We are delighted that John Lewis at home Newbury has been able to host an Olympic themed party for our Contact the Elderly group. All the guests and volunteers had a fun afternoon, waving British flags, chatting to John Lewis Partners (staff) and eating copious amounts of cake.”

Contact the Elderly is the only national charity solely focused on tackling loneliness and isolation and provides a vital friendship link for older people aged 75 and above who live alone through its monthly tea parties.  To find out how you could help contact Mary Enyon, Group Co-ordinator for Contact the Elderly Newbury Group 2 on 01635 551997 or email [email protected]
