Broad Street Mall Shopping Centre in Reading is asking the local community to be part of their ‘Bag-athon’ to help fight heart disease.

The event kicked off on Tuesday (28th August) with the Deputy Mayor of Reading, Councillor Debs Edwards donating the first bag of unwanted items to the British Heart Foundation’s (BHF) new campaign.

The bags can contain clothes, toys, accessories, shoes, CDs, DVDs and books and will all be sold at local Reading BHF shops.

Steve Fawke, Broad Street Mall Centre Manager said “It’s wonderful to see people in the local community getting involved in the campaign.  Whether groups are getting together to donate 5, 10, or 20 bags, or individuals are donating just one bag, it’s all gratefully received and will help the BHF to continue their lifesaving work.”

The drop off point in Broad Street Mall will be open Tuesday to  Saturday this week and between Thursday and Saturday next week. You can hand your bags into a local BHF shop after these dates. For more information and to sign up to the challenge, please visit bhf.org.uk/bagathon or contact your nearest BHF shop.
