Taking the plunge

Founder of the local Brain Tumour Support and Social Group, Louise Maslin, took the plunge on Sunday 29 July with a sponsored parachute jump.

The jump was originally due to take place on Sunday 24 June, but the poor weather at the start of summer forced them to postpone the day.

Louise parachuted 12,000ft at Silver Stars Parachute Centre at the Duke of Gloucester Barracks along with her brother Alan Fink, Alan’s partner Sue and Tony Brown, whose wife Pam was a member of the group but sadly passed away last year. So far they have raised £800 for the group, with more sponsorship yet to be collected.

Louise has been diagnosed with two tumours and it took three months to get the go ahead from her doctor.  She has wanted to do a parachute jump for a long time and is always looking for new ways to raise funds for the group.

Louise described the experience saying “I was suspended in mid-air for ages taking in the most beautiful views. My brother and I got so close together that we could shout to each other. We were all awestruck and it raised a lot for the group.”

Louise would like to add “I’d like to say thank you so much to everyone who has supported us and sponsored us including our family, friends and group members for their continued love and positivity, and to The Breeze radio and Buzz magazine for the publicity.”
