On Wednesday 15 June, Newbury’s popular Indian restaurant Indigo Bay underwent a transformation for one special evening.

The Brazilian Evening, organised alongside local community magazine Buzz, raised over £600 and offered a unique opportunity to discover Brazilian cuisine whilst enjoying traditional Brazilian music and watching the world famous Rio Carnival.

Guests were greeted with a complimentary Brazilian drink called Caipirinha and tried authentic Brazilian dishes such as Feijoada, a meat and beans stew, and Farofa, a dish made from toasted manioc flour.

After dinner, the raffle took place with prizes generously donated from local businesses, including a cycle helmet from Specialized, a manicure from Laurabella and a meal for two at Indigo Bay. Then the auction took place where everyone could bid for a signed Reading FC shirt, a Brazilian football shirt and a Newbury Rugby Club shirt.

Proceeds from the night went to Newbury’s Brain Tumour Support Group. The group aims to offer support, information and special days out to anyone living with a brain tumour. The group relies entirely on donations and volunteers. Founder Louise Maslin says “A huge thank you to all the Indigo Bay staff and Buzz magazine, to everyone who donated prizes & especially Jackie, publisher of Buzz, for being so very kind and generous to the Brain Tumour Support & Social Group raising money in this fabulous way.”

She adds ”It was a wonderful night, with wonderful food & people which I enjoyed immensely. Winning the bottle of champagne & massage was so unexpected but lovely. I’m sure the night has raised enough funds for the group to have some smashing days out.”

Louise will be parachute jumping to raise fund for the group on 24 June at Silver Stars Parachute Centre, Duke of Gloucester Barracks. To find out more about the group or to donate please go to http://www.brain-tumour.co.uk/.
