John Lewis at home Newbury teamed up with local Contact the Elderly Group to host a special Diamond Jubilee Party on Tuesday 29th May.
The party took place in the new John Lewis store’s café and was attended by eleven guests of the Newbury Contact the Elderly group, along with their volunteer drivers.
Mrs Margaret Rainer, from the Contact the Elderly group and a former John Lewis Partner commented, “We really enjoyed our afternoon. As a retired Partner of John Lewis, it’s fantastic to see how successful the business is and the important support it provides to the local community.”
Contact the Elderly is the only national charity solely focused on tackling loneliness and isolation and provides a regular and vital friendship link for older people aged 75 and above who live alone through its monthly tea parties.
Dominic Joyce, branch manager of John Lewis at home Newbury, said “We really enjoyed hosting a Diamond Jubilee party for the Contact the Elderly group. It was fantastic for us to kick off the Jubilee celebrations with people who could reminisce on the earlier days of the Queen’s reign.”
He adds “As a branch we try and involve ourselves in the local community as much as possible and hope to create more links with charities in the coming year.”
The new John Lewis at home store in Newbury’s Parkway opened in April and runs a Community Matters scheme which supports local charities and community projects. Every three months, Community Matters donates a percentage of £3,000 to three local community groups.
