Kennet Opera presents the opera in English with orchestral backing. Verdi’s first great operatic success, Nabucco (Nebuchadnezzar) is a tale from the Jewish captivity, set in Jerusalem and Babylon. It features hostages, treachery, thwarted love, rebellion, madness and final reconciliation, and includes one of grand opera’s best loved tunes is the Chorus of the Hebrew Slaves (Va, pensiero).
We have not traced a previous performance in Newbury, so you could be witnessing a West Berkshire premiere!
