IKEA store to open in Calcot

The planning of a new IKEA store in Pincents Lane Retail Park, Calcot and now been given the go ahead.
Following the decision last April from West Berkshire Council to redevelop a number of derelict retail and leisure units to create the 38,000sq home furnishing store, Sainsbury’s has now withdrawn their request for a judicial review of the application.
Sainsbury’s made the request in November last year over concerns of potential increased traffic in the area but this has now been dropped following discussions with IKEA and West Berkshire Council.
Carole Reddish, Acting Country Manager for IKEA UK, said “We are absolutely delighted that West Berkshire Council has supported our decision to come to Calcot. We look forward to continuing working closely with the people of Calcot to develop our store.”
The IKEA store in Calcot, reading will be the 19th store in the UK and will consist of a retail warehouse and adjacent multi deck parking area with a total of 1,259 parking spaces as well as bus and coach parking areas. It will also bring 400 new jobs to the area.
Although an opening date for the store has not been set, groundwork on the retail park is already underway.
