Council urges caution on roads

Car in snow

Many residents in the West Berkshire and North Hampshire area have woken up to snow this morning and the council is urging drivers to be extra careful on the roads due to the winter conditions.

West Berkshire Council warns all drivers, especially in certain areas such as the Lambourn Valley, to be particularly cautious. Many roads will have been gritted but the grit has no effect on roads with groundwater and this water may turn into sheet ice.

If you do intend to drive today, make sure your journey is necessary and allow more time for your journey. Make sure your car is equipped with warm clothing, boots, a shovel, de-icer and an ice scraper. It is also a good idea to have emergency food such as a flask of hot soup or coffee in case you get stuck or your vehicle breaks down.
