Sainsbury’s Newbury has raised £5,000 for West Berkshire Cruse Bereavement Care, as part of the Local Charity of the Year scheme.

Trained bereavement support volunteers from the Newbury based charity offer support to local people who have suffered bereavement. The group was chosen by customers and colleagues last June and has received support from the store for the past year.

Activities have included a sponsored walk, tombola and themed store fundraising days.

Volunteers from the charity were invited in to the Newbury supermarket for and end of year celebration tea party and to receive a cheque for the money raised.

Dene Burton, Store Manager of Sainsbury’s Newbury, said:

“We’ve had an excellent year supporting Cruse, our customers and colleagues have got involved with a number of fundraising activities. We’d like to thank everyone involved for making it such a brilliant partnership.”

Cruse volunteer and fundraiser Ruth Tibbetts, added:

“We’d like to thank the customers and colleagues at Sainsbury’s in Newbury for their support over the past year, it has been a very successful partnership. For us this hasn’t been just about the money raised but also about raising the profile of Cruse in the local community”

West Berkshire Cruse Bereavement Care will be back in the store during Carers Week which runs from 8th to 14th June.

Customers can vote for the store’s new part from 15th – 28th June in-store and online at www.sainsburyslocalcharity.co.uk.
