SUSTRANS Award for St Pauls School

St Pauls Primary School in Tilehurst is to receive an award from SUSTRANS, the charity that pioneers the ‘safe routes’ for travel concept in the UK.

The school will be the first in West Berkshire to be presented with the SUSTRANS Bronze Award for completing their first milestone as part of the Bike It project which teaches children lifelong cycling skills and is funded by West Berkshire Council’s Local Sustainable Transport Fund (LSTF).

To celebrate their achievement, the school has arranged for a BMX bike stuntman to put on a special display. The children with then take part in a Bling your Bike’ parade of . their own decorated bikes.

Navtej Tung, Transport Policy Officer at West Berkshire Council said, “This is a great achievement and highlights the commitment that both the staff and pupils at St Pauls have made to travelling safely in a very sustainable way.”

Birch Copse Primary School is due to receive their SUSTRANS Bronze Award shortly.

Mrs Corsten, headed the Bike It project at St Pauls school. She added, “We are very pleased to receive this award. The Bike It programme is an excellent way for children to learn how to travel safely and to enjoy the fun and health benefits of cycling.”
