A recent report by Which? has revealed that 69% of UK drivers have hit potholes over the past two years with 32% of them sustaining damage to their vehicles. However, only two-thirds of those whose cars were damaged went on to claim compensation due mainly to a lack of knowledge as to how to take action or because they couldn’t face the hassle of pursuing a claim.
However, the evidence shows that more than half of satisfactorily resolved claims were awarded an average of £188 in compensation for damage so it is worth taking action.
Drivers can insure themselves against just these kinds of incidences with a motor legal protection policy. For an annual premium of just £6.75, Best Price Financial Services’ Bronze level cover MLP policy provides up to £100,000 legal expenses to help drivers.
Commenting on the research, RAC Foundation director Professor Stephen Glaister acknowledged that many drivers are put off claiming due to the time involved. However, for drivers with BPFS’ motor legal protection the hassle factor need not be a factor in the decision making process as to whether or not to pursue a claim as, providing there is a 51% chance of success, the company’s appointed lawyers pursue cases on behalf of its clients.
In addition to the legal assistance, Best Price FS’s Bronze policy also entitles clients to a hire care for an indefinite period of time while their own car is being repaired.
Commenting on the research, Best Price FS’ operations direction, Mal Evans, commented: “Before we agree to pursue a claim, we do have to feel that the policyholder has a 51% chance of success. However, for most, when compared to the numbers of people not pursuing cases so potentially losing out on an average payout of £188, risking £6.75 would seem to be a risk worth taking. Of course, drivers can be covered under their car insurance policy but when one takes into account any excess and then the potential loss of their no claims bonus, investing in a policy which provides such great cover for such a small investment would appear to be the more sensible choice.”
In order to give a claim the maximum chance of success, drivers should record the time, date and exact location of the incident, get photographic evidence of both the offending pot hole and any visible damage to their vehicle, preferably date stamped, and the contact details of any witnesses.
Best Price FS’ motor legal protection policy’s Silver and Gold levels provide even greater cover for the motorist. Full details can be viewed at www.bestpricefs.co.uk/motor-legal-protection.
