Her journey has been interesting if not challenging. Coming from a financial and property background, Marilyn came across Reiki later in life.
After she completed her course, she decided to help others as much as she could but also animals, says a regular client “Mojo, our Pixie Bob cat, had been hit by a car and had managed to drag himself home. We took him to the vet who said that his trauma might leave his leg paralyzed but only time would tell. The vet said that if it did not heal he would have to amputate Mojo’s leg. Marilyn offered Reiki to see whether this might help Mojo. The results were truly amazing as Mojo recovered the use of his leg within two weeks”.
What does the session consist of?
A complete Reiki session is offered to a fully clothed recipient who is lying on a treatment table or sitting comfortably supported in a chair.
Most commonly, Reiki is offered through light, non-invasive touch with the practitioner’s hands placed and held on a series of locations on the head and front and back of the torso. The placement of the hands is never intrusive or inappropriate, nor any pressure.
What might I experience?
“I feel very refreshed and seem to be thinking more clearly.” “I think I fell asleep.” “I can’t believe how hot your hands got!” “I feel more relaxed than ever after a massage.” “My headache is gone.” These are some of things people typically say after a Reiki session with Marilyn. The experience of Reiki is subjective, changeable, and sometimes very subtle. People often experience heat in the practitioner’s hands, but sometimes the practitioner’s hands feel refreshingly cool.
How many sessions should I receive?
Marilyn may suggest a series of sessions however three sessions is a traditional recommendation and gives you time to evaluate the benefits you are receiving. Discuss how best to space the sessions to suit your needs and your schedule.

“I first started to go to Marilyn just over 2 years ago. I had always wanted to try Reiki and was delighted to see it advertised in Buzz Magazine with the trial offer of a session for £10. I was not disappointed; it is one of the most relaxing pleasant experiences I had ever had. I now go to Marilyn on a regular basis. At the time I had a serious spinal condition and also
required a new knee due to Arthritis. Obviously Reiki would not cure these conditions but it certainly helped make me more comfortable. The benefits are the beautiful feeling of well-being and relaxation I have felt after each session which does last for a few days. I am now pain free due to surgery to correct my condition’s but I do still like to go to Marilyn.
She is a very special, kind person whose company I enjoy and look forward to seeing. I would recommend it to anyone and am confident they would enjoy the experience.”
“A friend told me how much he had benefited from Reiki. My health is not good so I decided to try it. I was fortunate to come across the name of Marilyn Down when searching for a local teacher. I knew what to expect at a Reiki session but nevertheless I was a bit anxious. I need not have been anxious for Marilyn is a very pleasant person who soon put me at ease. She explained what would happen in the session and during it I was very relaxed and close to sleep. After the treatment I felt very calm; we sat and talked again about how I felt and Marilyn seemed to have all the time in the world. I was encouraged to stay until I felt quite ready to drive home. In the following days I felt less stressed and I definitely had less pain; I will go back to Marilyn Down very soon.”
“Many thanks for your help regarding Mojo our Pixie Bob cat who clearly had been hit by a car and had managed to drag himself home.
We took him to the vet who said that his trauma might leave his leg paralyzed but only time would tell. The vet said that if it did not heal he would have to amputate Mojo’s leg.
You kindly offered Reiki to see whether this might help Mojo as you had not administered Reiki to an animal before.
The results were truly amazing as Mojo recovered the use of his leg within two weeks and he is now the best he will be going forward.”
