With a host of summer events, thousands of thrill-seekers, sun-worshipers and families have descended on Newbury to enjoy the activities on offer.
Newbury Carnival, the culmination of the month-long Newbury Fest, saw the biggest carnival in Newbury’s history on Sunday 14 July. The event also included some new delights with the historic Battle of Britain Memorial Flight soaring above the fete before the Parade arrived.
Russell Downing, Managing Director of the Newbury Business Improvement District (BID), commented “It was another fantastic community event and I have never seen so many people packed into Victoria Park for any event. The carnival committee did an absolutely amazing job and the hugest amount of praise and thanks must go to them.”
Other recent events which have aided the surge in visitor numbers include the Waterways Festival at the end of June which kicked off Newbury Fest. The following weekend Newbury introduced its first Food Festival with over 80 different stalls.
Mr Downing added “The Food Festival brought a lot of new people in to the town for the first time and the feedback we have received after this great event has been so encouraging. We are now planning to hold three a year and have the first Hallowe’en-themed one pencilled in for the end of October.”
There are more events to enjoy this summer in Newbury and the surrounding area including a Tug of War and Bungee Jump in Newbury Market Place next month. Keep checking the online Buzz events page to find out what is happening near you.
