Honesty-Berkshire’s Cookery School S Final

Honesty

The ‘S’ Word celebration took place on the evening of 26th March at Berkshire’s newest cookery school, Honesty. Celebrated local author and founder of Honesty Cookery School, Romilla Arber kindly sponsored the event which saw 8 pupils from 4 schools in West Berkshire participate. The pupils attending were the winners from the participating schools, the Clere School, the Kennet School, the Willink School and the John O’Gaunt School.

Romilla Arber and her Executive Chef Matthew Ambrose worked with the lucky children to prepare a seasonal menu comprised of poached salmon and celeriac remoulade with a chicory leave salad, pork belly with a chorizo with white bean cassoulet and a forced rhubarb crème brulee. “Matthew devised the menu which really stretched the children both in terms of their skills and the experience they had of working with new ingredients. He focused on fresh, seasonal produce, which is exactly what the children had to do in the S Word Competition. Together we produced 3 delicious courses perfect for early spring.” commented Romilla Arber.

“We chose Honesty Cookery School as the venue for the S Word celebration as we knew it would be a really inspirational setting for the children to work in. I also think Honesty’s ethics are in tune with how we feel children should learn about food and food related issues in general. West Berkshire EBP are extremely grateful to Romilla Arber and Honesty for sponsoring the successful event. The pupils from all four schools thoroughly enjoyed themselves and gained some great experience.” said Melanie Watt, Project Officer for Education Business Partnership West Berkshire.

Whether through its restaurant, cookery school or the work it does with schools, Honesty seeks to make cooking and eating real food the norm again in the UK. 10% of all profits made by Honesty are donated to the Food Education Trust (www.foodeducationtrust.com), a charity that highlights the benefit to health of eating real food prepared at home.
