West Berkshire students ‘Take a Chance’

Students at the Take a Chance event

Students from eight West Berkshire schools and Vodafone volunteers took part in the annual Take a Chance Enterprise Skills Day at the Newbury Racecourse on Wednesday 10 July.

The event aims to help children realise and develop skills they never knew they had through a variety of activities and is organised by Education Business Partnership West Berkshire. To date, the day has benefitted over 900 students in the last seven years.

Funded by the Vodafone Foundation, the full Take a Chance Programme starts in autumn with a series of workshops and mentoring sessions and has so far helped 300 students.

Helen Roy, Programme Manager, said “We are delighted that the Vodafone Foundation’s continuing sponsorship will give even more students the chance to benefit from the programme and we look forward to the start of a new series of workshops and mentoring sessions. The ongoing commitment and enthusiasm of Vodafone volunteers is incredible.”

Participating schools include Kennet School, Park House School, St Bartholomew’s School, Trinity School and Performing Arts College, Denefield School, Little Heath School, Theale Green Community School and The Downs School. Students now wait to hear whether or not they will be selected as part of the new intake of 50 participants to start the full Take a Chance Programme.
