Sainsbury's staff visit Paralympic-games

Customers at Newbury’s Sainsbury’s will get the chance to see the Paralympic Torch as it comes to the store on Friday 26 October from 12.30pm to 2.30pm.

The Torch is currently on a special tour visiting 400 Sainsbury’s stores across the UK. The tour began on Monday 24 September and will finish Thursday 1 November. As the first ever Paralympic Games-only sponsor, Sainsbury’s will be the only retailer to give people the chance to see the Torch.

The Torch is one of 620 Torches that were used during the 24 hour Relay which took place from Stoke Mandeville in Aylesbury, the home of the Paralympic Movement, to the Olympic Park in Startford, London, on Tuesday 28 and Wednesday 29 August.

Newbury store PR Ambassador Carol Irwin commented “Our colleagues thought it was fantastic when the Olympic torch relay came through Newbury but we haven’t had a chance to see the Paralympic torch locally. We are really excited the torch will be coming to Newbury store and hope that lots of people will take the opportunity to come along.”

Sainsbury’s Newbury Store Manager Becky Copper added “We’ve really enjoyed playing our part in raising awareness of the London 2012 Paralympic Games in Newbury. For our customers, it’s a once in a lifetime chance for them to see the Torch and feel the buzz of the Paralympic Games, which we’re proud to have sponsored.”

Staff at the Newbury store (pictured) were also given the chance to visit the Olympic park during the Paralympic Games earlier this year.
