As part of their pledge to donate one hour of time for every gold medal won at London 2012, John Lewis at home Newbury have donated 63 hours of time to help with renovations at The Castle School in Newbury.

The 63 hours represent the 63 medals won at this year’s London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games by Team GB.

Each of the eight members of John Lewis staff who were involved helped with renovation projects in the children’s playground which included; refurbishing a sandpit, repairing a broken fence, and stripping, power-washing and refurbishing a double swing area for autistic children.

John Lewis at home Newbury branch manager, Dominic Joyce, said “We were thrilled to be taking part in the scheme to develop The Castle School site. We pride ourselves on being a part of the community and are delighted to be able to support this important local cause following the success of our athletes at the Olympic and Paralympic Games this summer.”

The Castle School’s Head Teacher, Jon Hewitt, said “We are over the moon with the result of the hard work put in by the John Lewis volunteers. It’s amazing the difference they have made in such a short time and their efforts have greatly enhanced our children’s playtime. We are all so very grateful to the team at John Lewis for their Community support.”

The Castle School in Newbury caters for young people between the ages of two and 19 who suffer from complex learning difficulties.
