Adult education can be a great way to improve your skills, gain qualifications or learn about something you are interested in. There are many different education types available, for example apprenticeships where you learn on the job, degree courses where you study towards qualifications, or part-time / night courses where you can learn a new hobby or craft for your own pleasure.
There are a number of reasons why you might choose to go back into education. Perhaps you are looking for a career change, but need to gain qualifications or experience before you can work in your chosen industry. Perhaps you are looking for something fun to do with friends, such as a dance class or art lessons. Perhaps you have finally decided to pursue something you have wanted to do for years, such as learning a new language, improving your computer skills or learning how to make jewellery. Whatever your reason, West Berkshire and North Hampshire have many opportunities to find the right course for you.
Newbury College offers higher education courses such as first degrees, higher national diplomas and foundation degrees where you can learn vocational skills such as accountancy and teaching. A degree or HND can improve your chances of getting the job of your dreams, or perhaps you just want to study to improve your personal knowledge? Whatever the reason, there is a course for you.
If you are looking for an apprenticeship, the West Berkshire Training Consortium could help. They help to find you a job with a local employer, develop the skills you will need to work and even offers recognised qualifications to help you progress in your career. If you are aged 25+, WBTC will co-fund 40% of the cost of the training.
The Workers’ Educational Association provide adults with the resources and adult education required to flourish and start or proceed in their chosen careers. They operate throughout England and Scotland, but you can search their website to find courses close to you.
Next Step provides information and advice to support adults in making appropriate decisions on a full range of learning and work opportunities. The service is free, confidential and impartial and can help you decide on a career path.
New Directions offer learning and employment services in Reading. They have four centres in Reading, and run a wide range of courses, such as Creative Flower Arranging, Photoshop skills, pottery and language skills. For the full list of over 100 courses, visit their website.
