Spring Clean Your Thinking & Your Mind

Spring has sprung, the weather is warmer, nature is waking up and we are all freshening our outer worlds up.

What about our inner world? How about Spring Cleaning your thinking and your mind? 

Here are three questions to ask yourself and work on…

1 How do you talk to yourself? 

Always start with yourself, the tone you take, and the language you use about yourself. How kind are you to yourself? Start talking to yourself like someone you care about, with respect, kindness and love. We all make mistakes so if you berate yourself, how about asking yourself, what or how can you learn from the mistake?

2 What beliefs do you hold about yourself?

Often the way we talk about ourselves comes from fundamental and deeply held beliefs. These can be who we think we are, specifically, I’m clumsy, thoughtless, stupid etc or more generalised not good enough, not worth it, etc. The key is to check the reality of these beliefs…what or who created them and in what circumstances? We often make beliefs from a single event, our mind then constantly looks for evidence to prove it.

3 What stories have you created that you tell about you and your situation that is keeping you stuck?

These can be the assumptions you’ve made, the connections and rules you have created, the limits and boundaries you have made, all of which keep you stuck where you are. Challenging them is the easiest way to start…what about doing X means you can’t do Y? Again check the reality of the story…what do you get from it?

And the solution?

Work on all three areas with the following focus…

Where do I want to be, what do I want? 

What identity do I want to create for myself? 

What qualities do I want and need to succeed?

Truthfully you can do this work on your own.
