New Defibrillator at the Wharf Toilets, Newbury

A defibrillator has been installed on the public toilets building at The Wharf, Newbury.

The ‘Public Access’ defibrillator will be available to use 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

Newbury Town Councillors started looking at suitable locations around Newbury for an extra defibrillator in the town which could be accessible at any hour. There are presently units in Parkway Shopping, the Kennet Shopping Centre, the Railway Station and at the Tennis Courts in Victoria Park as well as some others dotted about.

Cllr Martin Colston, Leader of the Council, said, “We felt there was a definite need within the Town for a defibrillator that could be accessed by the public 24 hours a day. The Wharf toilets building is an ideal position should anyone need to use it in an emergency”.

He continued, “You do not need any training to use the device – it is designed for public use. You cannot misuse it as it will deliver a shock to the casualty only if they need it; in other words, it will not let you shock them unless they need a shock. It is part of an ongoing programme in the Council’s Strategy, as we work to make Newbury a town we can all be proud of.”
