A summer of fitness and fun

As children and their parents prepare to go back to school, we look back over the amazing achievements from our youngsters who attended our summer school.

This year’s theme at Razzamataz Newbury was based on ‘The Greatest Showman’. As well as participating in the iconic songs, students also got to learn circus skills from an industry professional.

During the week, children and their teachers worked on various songs, dances and drama pieces, together with learning about theatre skills in general. Being given the chance to perform is paramount to building a child’s confidence which is why on the last day, the children had the opportunity to perform their showcase to friends and family.

The teachers and children spent time working on scripts and characters, learning songs and dances and preparing for the final day performance, for some, the first time they have ever performed in front of an audience.

“We are so proud of the children for what they achieved in just one week,” says Debbi Ledwith, Principal of Razzamataz Newbury. “It is lovely watching the performance coming together and seeing how the children grow in confidence in just a few days.”

The feedback from the children and the parents has been wonderful and it’s been lovely to see that the summer school has inspired youngsters to participate in performing arts in the future.  Maggie from Basingstoke wrote: “Thank you performers and staff for creating a stunning performance.  So lovely to see and hear young people exploring and using their performance talents.  Excellent team work!”

For parents, finding options for children during the summer is also challenging which is why Razzamataz is incredibly proud to be one of the fastest growing and most affordable theatre schools in the UK, having shot to prominence after an appearance on BBC’s Dragons’ Den in 2007.

“The performing arts is incredibly beneficial to help young people build up positive communication skills that will enhance every area of their lives at home, school and beyond,” adds Debbi. “Razzamataz is not just about creating the next generation of performers, it can help give all young people the skills they need to achieve their dreams.”
