The Newbury & District Agricultural Society have officially started it’s countdown to the Royal County of Berkshire Show, revealing a number of new and exciting attractions.
Taking place on 15th and 16th September, the biggest new addition will be allowing dogs to the Show. And a brand new Dog Zone has been created near the Country Area where there will be lots of have-a-go activities, shows and dog-related trade stands.
Patricia Marks, CEO of the Newbury & District Agricultural Society comments “We are delighted to welcome dogs to the Show for 2018 onwards. All arrangements to accompany them are in place so it will make it a real family day out!”
Two new main attractions will be introduced this year. A commemoration of 100 years since the end of the First World War will play a huge part in the Show, with a demonstration of advancements in agricultural technology, displaying steam engines and vintage tractors right through to the modern day machinery. A very moving tribute.
And secondly, the amazing Bolddog Lings motorbike stunt team will be returning to the Show in spectacular style, with their flips, jumps and tricks using the largest landing ramp in the world!
A number of changes have been made to make visitors’ day more enjoyable. The ever popular Food Marquee will have a new home, at the far side of the Showground, with just as many tempting treats to tantalise those tastebuds.
The Flower Tent is moving to the Village Green and has been given a fresh new look, with the introduction of a café and new domestic classes for the public to enter. And for all those planning a wedding, why not pop along to our new Wedding Showcase, located near the Flower Tent and featuring local suppliers who will be offering everything a bride needs for their big day as well as a mini fashion show at intervals throughout the weekend.
The Team are very excited to be welcoming Tractor Ted for the first time, who will be entertaining all young tractor enthusiasts with fun activities such as ride-on diggers, bouncy castle, driving track, games and an activity trail.
And another new feature this year is an Enterprise Zone, which will feature a number of new businesses who have been trading for less than 12 months.
The Royal County of Berkshire Show will once again deliver a spectacular livestock line-up, with award-winning cattle, pigs, sheep, goats and chickens vying to be champion of champions, which are announced at the prestigious Livestock Parade that takes place in the main arena each day of the Show.
The Show organisers never forget their agricultural origins, and this plays a huge part of the Show each year. As well as attracting livestock from across the UK, our On-Farm competitions are one of the historic bases the Berkshire Show was founded upon. Designed to help promote better and increased food production, the team travel across the county visiting farms and then awards are given out at a ceremony during the weekend of the Show. The Show also plays a huge part in the Society’s free educational programme, attracting many schools across the county to exhibit their work in the Education Tent, ranging from homemade delicacies to items made out of natural objects. A great way for children to learn all about the countryside and where their food comes from.
Ian Wilson, Show Chairman comments “I am very much looking forward to welcoming our visitors to the Show in September as well as their dogs. A huge number of livestock will descend upon the Showground, which is the last major show on the circuit with many prestigious prizes to be won in the competitions we hold. I’m also excited to see all the many changes we’ve made to the showground this year, which will improve the visitor experience.”
Many of the show’s favourites will be returning:
The team are really excited with the variety of entertainment and attractions across the Showground this year, with fun ‘have-a-go’ activities for all the family as well as spectacular shows and stunts and, of course, the best livestock from around the UK on show.
