Five star Berkshire homebuilder David Wilson Homes Southern has transformed the garden in a children’s charity centre as a good will gesture.
West Berkshire-based charity Swings & Smiles, which supports children and young adults with special needs, is now able to feature a newly adapted outdoor space which provides visitors with a place to relax and play.
The extensive works included the construction and installation of raised beds in the sensory garden, which will allow the charity’s cooking club to grow their own vegetables and learn about nutrition.
As well as donating materials to the project, the homebuilder also laid a large patio that will be used as a picnic area and has wheelchair accessible tables and installed a range of specialist sensory equipment and outdoor lighting.
Laura Lewis, Charity Director at Swings & Smiles, said: “We are thrilled that we are now able to use the garden to its full potential. For Swings & Smiles to be able to offer all children with special needs and their families a place to play, just like everyone else, is very special.
“Swings & Smiles have been amazed by all the work and help offered by David Wilson Homes. They have delivered a brilliantly finished garden and supported us to make finishing touches that will make all the difference. The space is now a really fun and enjoyable place to be that children with special needs and their families can make use of for years to come. Thank you!”

It is a pleasure to be able to support the vital work being carried out by the charity and the work they do for children with special needs and their families is very admirable.”
Staff at David Wilson Homes Southern also raised £40,000 for Swings & Smiles in 2017 after it was announced as the housebuilder’s charity of the year. They worked hard to raise vital funds throughout the year with a dress down day and various in-house raffles and are delighted with the sum raised. The total included a £12,500 donation by parent company Barratt Developments.
