Town Council Supports Proposed Boat Yard.

Newbury Town Council’s Planning and Highways Committee has supported the plans for a new boat yard at Greenham Mill, on an Island to the east of Mill Lane.

The proposal is to erect workshops and a dwelling on the site to serve a family run canal boat maintenance/build facility.

Woodwork workshops for interior restoration works and a metal workshop for boat repairs and refurbishment are to be provided. The application also states that there will be four people employed full time at the yard.

Welcoming the proposal, the Deputy Leader of the Council, Cllr Miles Evans, said, “I’m delighted the council has supported this application. The River Kennet is Newbury’s artery and this is a vote of confidence not only in our local economy, but the wider leisure boat industry.”

The plans now pass to West Berkshire Council, who have the final say on whether the scheme goes ahead.
