Basingstoke family put heir own stamp on home

FAMILY ESCAPE THE RAT RACE AND PUT THEIR OWN STAMP ON NEW BASINGSTOKE HOME

A family of four have escaped the rat race and moved out of London and got themselves onto the property ladder at David Wilson Homes’ development Gillies Meadow in Basingstoke.

Sulaimon and Natalia Awodeji, both 35, are originally from London but wanted to move out of the Capital so they would have more space for their daughters Saffiyah (6) and Aaliyah (10), and so they could purchase their first home.

They now live in a four bedroom property at the Park Prewett Road development and are enjoying the new community that is already flourishing there.

The family found the idea of owning a brand new house very appealing as it offers a lot of the luxuries that couldn’t find in older houses like an en-suite, separate bathrooms and a blank canvas that they could make their own.

Natalia said: “We wanted to leave London and was looking for an area that is more suitable for our kids to grow up, with more space and freedom.

Basingstoke is a quiet area with lots of outside spaces, so our kids can enjoy a lot more time outside than they did in the Capital.

“I always wanted to move toward the South of London and Basingstoke sounded like a great option.

It is an easy commute to London for work and just that much closer to the seaside which we love to visit in the summer.

“We looked at several developments in the area, but when we saw Gillies Meadow, just knew this was the one for us.

“We loved the layout, and the overall size of the property was more generous than others, all within our budget.”

The family are enjoying nearby amenities such as shopping and leisure centres, as well as a choice of cinemas and restaurant.

Reading is also not too far and provides them with a great alternative for shopping and eating out.

To purchase their first home they used the government backed Help to Buy scheme, which allows you to buy with just a 5% deposit.

They have also benefitted from a 75% mortgage, as 20% has been given to them as an equity loan.

Natalia added: “We used Help to Buy which helped us as we required a smaller deposit on our new home.

Without this scheme we wouldn’t have been able to buy a house big enough for the whole family.”

The prestigious homes at Gillies Meadow have achieved a Built for Life Outstanding Award, which is only given to a handful of other sites in the country.

The award recognises the development’s potential to flourish as a popular new community, and David Wilson Homes Southern was given full marks for Gillies Meadow in the accreditation system.

Residents at Gillies Meadow will benefit from the close proximity of a range of local amenities including a community centre, convenient stores and leisure facilities including a golf club.

The area is also superb for schools and is in close proximity to great commuter links as well as the main hospital, making it the ideal place for a range of people to live.

With easy access to the M3 and the A339 and regular trains to Waterloo Station, Gillies Meadow is ideally situated to benefit from the local transport infrastructure.
