Stories were brought to life in front of the eyes of children from the Rocking Horse Nursery at Newbury Racecourse thanks to a storytelling event at the nursery organised by David Wilson Homes Southern.
Children at the nursery, located at Newbury Racecourse, were visited by a storyteller as part of the housebuilder’s celebration of World Book Day.
The five-star housebuilder invited professional storyteller Martin Reed, a member of the Society for Storytelling, to spend the morning at the nursery, telling stories to the children and engaging them in the beauty of literature.
Melanie Godliman, Nursery Manager at the Rocking Horse Nursery, said: “We would like to thank David Wilson Homes for arranging such a wonderful event, to celebrate World Book Day.
“It was very much quieter than expected due to the weather but still lots of fun. The children enjoyed listening to the stories then drawing different parts of it to make a sequence.”
Rob Allen, Sales Director at David Wilson Homes Southern, said: “It was a pleasure to organise this storytelling event for the children at the Rocking Horse Nursery and Martin’s stories really enchanted the children which was great to see.
“Events such as these give David Wilson Homes the opportunity to make a difference in the communities in which they build and encourage the awareness day that promotes skills such as reading, writing, listening and creativity.”
Martin Reed said afterwards that it was a pleasure to work with the children and teachers of the Rocking Horse Nursery.
He said: “Oral storytelling is a very ancient art form, but it still has relevance today. Just by using words, expressions and gestures, a storyteller can summon up worlds, peoples, things and ideas which it would be impossible to present in any other way.
“David Wilson Homes supports this World Book Day initiative every year by supplying storytellers to nursery groups, so I was very grateful to be invited to tell stories for the children of the Rocking Horse Nursery.
David Wilson Homes currently has a selection of homes and apartments available to reserve at Newbury Racecourse, with prices starting from £231,000.
