Council staff raise cash for local charities.

West Berkshire Council staff have donated almost £1,800 from the proceeds of their Christmas Raffle to local charities.

The money was raised by staff and Councillors buying tickets for the Raffle.

£884 has been donated to both Newbury and District Cancer Care Trust and The Rosemary Appeal. The latter are fundraising to build a new unit at West Berkshire hospital for cancer and kidney patients, along with a CT scanner.

Clare Ockwell organises the Christmas Raffle. She said: We are delighted to be able to donate to such great causes. The Rosemary Appeal target is £4.5 million, they have already raised almost £3.5 million which is amazing.

We are very grateful to The Greenham Common Trust who will be matching the amount that we have donated to the Rosemary Appeal making the total £1768, which is terrific!”

Helen Milroy, Executive Officer of the NDCCT, collected the cheques. She said: “We are very grateful for these donations. We rely heavily on the fundraising efforts of local people and organisations which make a real difference to our communities.”
