Beans on Toast comes to Reading

English folk singer and festival favourite Beans on Toast has announced a brand new tour this coming May. The Small Town Celebrations will stray from the beaten track to some of the country’s finest small towns, an adventure into the heart of England.

Each show he will be joined by a brilliant new songwriter local to the town from England’s thriving song-writing community. These songwriters will also be included on a special compilation CD “Small Town Heroes”, which will be available throughout the tour.

Also on the tour will be Sky Smeed, a country singer from Chanute, a small town in Kansas, bringing an international feel to proceedings.

Around the tour there are plans to celebrate each towns individual identity; from organised pub crawls, to visits to local tourist attractions, to a surfing meet and maybe even a game of rounders down the local park.

A true tribute to the UK’s small towns and the people that live in them, the stories collected along the way will go on to not only inspire Beans’ new album in December but the adventures will also be captured for a special documentary, to be screened at this year’s Glastonbury festival.

Beans has been in the game a long time now; singing, travelling and telling it how it is. With 7 albums under his belt and a year round touring schedule that has taken him all over Europe, North America and South Africa. Beans himself is from a small town in Essex, and he hasn’t forgotten where he came from.

Beans On Toast began playing in 2005, rising from the London folk scene. He opened proceedings at Glastonbury Festival in 2007 and has played each year since. He supported Kate Nash at London’s Hammersmith Apollo in 2008. In 2009 he temporarily “morphed into a rap/hip-hop artist and after sacking his band on New Year’s Eve he formed a full on country band for 2010.

As well as recently supporting Frank Turner at his Wembley Arena show in April 2012, playing to over 10000 people, he was the opening act in 12 February 2014 show in The O2 Arena, again to Frank Turner, credited as the reason for Frank Turner’s change to acoustic.

Beans On Toast released his 50-track ‘Standing On A Chair’ in 2009, produced by Ben Lovett from Mumford & Sons. It features guest vocals by Emmy The Great, Frank Turner and members of The Holloways, amongst others.
