England Rugby star and local sporting hero Jonathan Joseph officially opened the new David Lloyd Leisure club in Newbury yesterday evening. After hosting a DL Kids activity session with local youngsters, he cut the ribbon alongside David Lloyd Leisure’s Chief Executive Officer Glenn Earlham and General Manager Paul McNicholas to declare the premier health and leisure club officially open. Members were joined by the Mayor and Mayoress of Newbury, Howard Bairstow and Jo Day to enjoy the celebrations which included a live band, refreshments and a spectacular fireworks display.
The club has proved to be a big hit amongst the residents of Newbury with nearly 3000 members already signed up before the doors opened last month. The club is David Lloyd Leisure’s 92nd club and represents an investment of £9.3m, creating more than 70 new jobs locally.

The construction company Pellikaan worked flat-out to ensure a smooth completion of the new 3,300 sqm club, which provides facilities including extensive tennis and sports facilities, a state-of-the-art fitness area featuring the latest in gym innovation and a dedicated zone for children’s activities.

Lloyd Leisure’s Tennis All Stars exclusive junior coaching programme, accredited by the Lawn Tennis Association (LTA), is available to children aged 3-11 years, while adults have access to instruction from a dedicated team of LTA-qualified qualified coaches. The swimming facilities comprise both indoor and outdoor heated pools, offering a range of activities including aqua aerobics, family swim times and quiet adult swim sessions.
